In this book is the information you need to
1. Draft a shirt that fits your man,
2. Use industrial sewing techniques to speed your sewing,
3. Produce a professional man’s shirt using basic drafting and sewing equipment you already have.
Before I began to write this book, I wondered how the industry could produce a man’s shirt off-shore, ship it into the USA, and sometimes sell it for no more than $20. As I developed the book, I discovered and diagrammed the industrial sewing techniques that will both speed your sewing and produce professional results.
I used my husband and son as models. I began by taking a pattern off one of my husband’s shirts. I then cut a muslin from the pattern. As I checked the muslin’s fit I realized that ALL of my husband’s shirts fit him poorly.
I also realized that MOST men are wearing shirts that don’t fit.

This is especially true for older men. Most older men are not buttoning their shirts at the neck. Because they have larger necks than when they were young, their choice is to either buy a shirt that fits their neck, but is far too big throughout the garment, or to settle for a shirt that more or less fits through the body, but is too small through the neck. Most older men are wearing shirts that are not buttoned at the neck.
I have read that all that matters is the collar and the cuffs, because the rest of the shirt is covered by the suit jacket. But apparently most men buy to fit the sleeve length and body fit. If the collar is too tight, they just leave it open. My son, a model size with the exception that he needs a slightly longer sleeve, buys to fit, but rolls his sleeves up a little to hide that the sleeves are too short.
Because men wear their clothes looser then women, the poor fit of their clothing goes largely unnoticed. However, both my husband and son tell me how much better their custom-made shirts feel.

Some manufactured shirts may not fit anyone well. The shirt on the left, bought from a well-known men’s store, fit my son so poorly, I published the picture in my book, telling readers not to copy a shirt that fits so poorly.
