I have been sewing for over 50 years, mostly clothing for myself, and as of late, quilts and household projects. I am a self-taught, avid home sewer, and have bought many books on sewing and fitting over the years. I have not sewn with Big 4 commercial patterns for the last 10 years or so because fitting has become so difficult with age. I discovered Laurel Hoffman through a Youtube video, “How to Trace a Home-Sewing Pattern” after deciding to give commercial Big 4 patterns a go again. That video, and others on her Youtube channel, such as correcting commercial collar and sleeve patterns, are real gems!! After a warm, friendly and helpful phone conversation with Laurel, I bought three of her books, Grading to Fit, Grading and Sewing a Blouse to Fit, and Tailoring a Woman’s Jacket. Her books are extremely well-written and easy to follow with excellent illustrations and great attention to detail. I love the way she explains the rationale for each of her suggestions. And she is a lovely person, too!
